The game releases on all platforms on July 28th. Keep the surf going on land with the Electrical Ninja from Shred. I’m actually surprised it took so long for this to happen but I’m definitely looking forward to getting my hands on Skater XL to see for myself what the game has to offer. It’s not surprising to see the skating genre of video games coming back with Skater XL, and the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 remaster both coming this year. Watching the trailer got me super excited just to see the genre pop back up and I can’t wait to actually play the game myself. Attending and watching street league was some of the most fun I’ve had and I always thoroughly enjoyed playing skating games. Tony Hawk: Shred for Wii game reviews & Metacritic score: Tony Hawk and Robomodo are reuniting on a second game to use the Tony Hawk: Ride skateboard. I remember skating all through middle school and high school. This also seems like it would be a great game to have on the go so I’m very happy to see it coming to Switch.

With mods and community creation being such a big part of the game, I think it will be important for as many people to get their hands on Skater XL as possible. It’s good to see this releasing on all platforms that way as many people as possible can get their hands on it. The game is currently in early access on Steam and will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch as well. Since these two games differ so much in play style I think fans of the genre can enjoy both. This allows for some very specific and custom trick combinations that could make for some really amazing highlight reels. This is a bit different from the arcade style game that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater prides itself in with its insanely, mostly unrealistic combos. Skater XL really seems to put a ton of focus on the controls and how much control you have over the skaters feet and board. The studio is making sure to incorporate community creation with mods, brands and maps to keep things feeling fresh and I really like this concept. Skater XL is an indie game developed by Easy Day Studios and it looks to recapture realism in its controls, so much so that completing something like a basic kickflip can feel like quite the accomplishment. The controls are a lot tighter than before. The board is a lot of fun and it's very addictive. Kids love it and can beat me on a regular basis. Skater XL looks to kick off what seems to be a resurgence in the genre. Shred's game play is fun and the fact that Tony Hawk himself actually hangs out and teaches you is great. There was a time when skating was a big thing in video games, but that time has been gone for a while. EA’s Skate took things to the next level with a game that was quite a bit more challenging but far more realistic and super rewarding. : In the VGA pre-show, Tony Hawk confirmed that the game will be released on downloadable platforms for under $20 and said Activision was aiming for a summer release.I remember my days in High school competing with friends on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, trying to set the longest combo.

While Activision hadn't committed to a new game in the series for 2012, company executives had said they still see potential in the franchise, likening Hawk's staying power to that of NBA great Michael Jordan, who played his last professional game in 2003 but was the cover athlete for NBA 2K11 and one of several for this year's NBA 2K12. It was the second game, following Tony Hawk: Ride, to use a motion-sensing skateboarding peripheral. The most recent Tony Hawk game-last year's Tony Hawk: Shred-was developed by independent studio Robomodo and sold under 3,000 units in its first week. Hawk added that the game is set for release on "digital platforms" in the first half of 2012. In this case, the game is said to compile "select" levels from the first two Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games, including School and Downhill. As the name suggests, the game will be a revamped version of old Tony Hawk content for release on high-definition platforms. Can't stop the Hawk.Īccording to a Joystiq report from the Video Game Awards in Los Angeles tonight, Hawk confirmed for the blog that Activision is working on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD. Activision gave the Tony Hawk franchise a year off after the series lost steam at retailers, but the Hawkman is apparently ready to take flight once more.
